7th Conference of MGIMO and Japan Institute of International Affairs

October 18th, the 7th Conference of MGIMO and the Japan Institute of International Affairs took place in Tokyo. A delegation from MGIMO participated in the event, led by the University's Vice-Rector for Research, Evgeny Kozhokin.

Kicking-off the event, the Director General of the Japan Institute of International Affairs, Yoshiji Nogami and Evgeny Kozhokin remarked that the conference was unfolding at a time when Russian-Japanese relations are flourishing, and that the speakers at the Forum would have the opportunity to describe their new nature, against the backdrop of international tensions.

The Russian side also comprised the Head of the Department of Oriental Studies Dmitry Streltsov, who presented a report on the development of bilateral relations in 2016, the Professor of International Journalism Sergei Chugrov, who spoke of how Russia is perceived in Japanese public opinion and vice-versa and Vladimir Nelidov from the Department of Oriental Studies who delved into the current state of the partners economic relations.

During the panel dedicated to issues of global and regional security, the Chair of the Department of Diplomacy Alexander Panov made a presentation regarding the current military-strategic situation in East-Asia and the Chair of the Department of History and Politics of Europe and America, Valentin Pechatnov, concentrated on US elections and their influence on Washington's policy towards Asian countries.
