ASEAN Academic Days 2020: online book presentation by Chris Cheang

MGIMO University and the ASEAN Centre invites students and experts, officials and entrepreneurs, all those who are genuinely interested in Southeast Asian Studies and research on Russia-ASEAN relations to the series of online-lectures and events “ASEAN Academic Days 2020”. The next guest is a prominent Singaporean diplomat Mr. Chris Cheang who will present his new book “Life and Work in Post-Soviet Russia”. The event will take place on December 16, 2020 (Wednesday) at 10:30 AM (Moscow time) / 15:30 PM (Singapore time).

Chris Cheang is an experienced and well-known diplomat, who was a Singapore Foreign Service Officer, working in various capacities in the departments dealing with Western European countries; Southeast Asian countries; computer and information security and international economics dealing with APEC, and Singapore’s Free Trade Agreements. He also served in the Singapore Embassy as First Secretary in Bonn (1983-1987). From 1994-1997, 1999-2004 and 2006-2013, he was First Secretary and subsequently Counsellor and Deputy Chief of Mission in the Singapore Embassy in Moscow. His last overseas assignment was between 2013 and 2017, as Singapore Consul-General in San Francisco. He has been a Senior Fellow with the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) in Singapore since October 2017. Chris is relatively fluent in the Russian language, and has an excellent command of the German language.

The online meeting will be via Zoom platform on December 16, 2020 (Wednesday) at 10:30 AM (Moscow time) / 15:30 PM (Singapore time).
