The Dual Master’s Degree Program MGIMO-University — University of Geneva was established in 2012.

The first year of the Program takes place at MGIMO-University, where the students have to fulfill a tailor-made curriculum based on the international Master’s Program «Governance and Global Affairs» taught entirely in English. The second year is held at the University of Geneva on the basis of the «International Organizations Master of Business Administration» (10 months of study +3 months internship).

The M.A. MGIMO year begins with an intensive program in politics, international relations, economics, designed to strengthen students’ skills. All courses are taught in English. If candidates’ command of Russian is adequate, during the M.A. academic year they can select additional courses from the courses available to the Russian students of Master’s Program in International Relations and Political Science taught in Russian.

At least some command of Russian is recommended but not required. Students from countries other than Russia will attend courses in the Russian language — 10 academic hours per week.

Some courses are essentially lecture/discussion; others are seminars in which students present papers for group discussion and workshops based on field research, participation by visiting experts, and group reports.

Academic supervisor of the program is Vice-Rector for Graduate and International Programs, PhD in Political Sciences, Dr.Andrey Baykov.


The admission to the program is carried on the basis of student’s portfolio that should be sent to the coordinator’s e-mail.

  • Application essay (motivation letter for 2-3 pages)
  • Two letters of recommendation (academic or professional)
  • Copy of official transcript from each college and graduate school attended
  • Copy of English language certificates (for non-native English speakers): IELTS (minimum 6,5), TOEFL, CAE, CPE
  • Proof of completion of the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) with a satisfactory result
  • Work experience is preferred, but not compulsory
  • Apostilled Diploma (to be presented before December, 1 of the first academic year)

The curriculum of the ‘Governance and Global Affairs’ program combines training in analytical methods and practical management skills to ensure that graduates are prepared to understand problems and implement solutions. Students combine these core skills with a focus on a policy area of their choice.
Program graduates have employment opportunities in federal, state, and local governments and with private civic groups, interest groups, and political groups. Students who go on to graduate work can expect to find appointments in college teaching. MGIMO graduates are in high demand by employers in business and industry.

Toward the end of their studies students engage in a practice-oriented internship. Internship Program helps considerably in finding employment upon graduation.

The curriculum of the program «Governance and Global Affairs» consists of core disciplines and elective courses. That allows each student to make an individual schedule appropriate to his professional interests and personal inclinations.
The program includes internship and master thesis writing.
For successful graduation students need to pass final exams and defend the Master’s thesis.
