MGIMO at United Nations International Media Seminar on Peace in the Middle East

September 5th-6th, an international media seminar on Peace in the Middle East unfolded at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The event was organized by the UN’s Department of Public Information as part of the Special Information Programme on «The Question of Palestine», in collaboration with Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and with the support of the UN Association of Russia, and the Russian Peace Foundation.

The opening ceremony was attended by MGIMO’s Vice-Rector for Human Resources Vladimir Morozov and members of the faculty. In her welcome speech, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications, Alison Smale, read a message from Antonio Guterres, in which he noted that the seminar provides an «important platform to discuss media-related topics connected to the difficult and challenging situation in the Middle East» and that it is «encouraging that it remains strong, 27 years after its inception».

The program of the media seminar covers a number of different aspects of the Arab-Israeli conflict, including the information war, the situation with Palestinian refugees and the security of journalists covering events in the region.
