MGIMO Rector at «Trianon dialogue» Coordinating Council Meeting

13 December 2017

December 13th, a meeting of the Russian side of the «Trianon Dialogue» Coordinating Council, chaired by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, took place. The event was attended by Anatoly Torkunov, MGIMO Rector and co-President of the «Trianon Dialogue» Franco-Russian social society forum.

The initiative to create this new platform for bilateral interaction appeared on May 29th, 2017 in Versailles during talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and French President Emmanuel Macron. The «Trianon Dialogue» does not compete with existing formats of cooperation in Franco-Russian relations and aims to expand bilateral interaction in all spheres. The Coordinating Council comprises 16 prominent figures from various professional spheres of both countries.

The «Trianon Dialogue» will use a digital platform which functions as an Internet portal and a social network. The platform will present current news, text, audio and video content, and have an interactive function enabling French and Russian citizens to launch cooperation projects. The first joint initiative of 2018 is the «City of the Future», which aims at encouraging both sides to combine their efforts to solve some of the challenges linked to living in megacities.

December 19th, the «Trianon Dialogue» will be presented to business leaders of both countries at the next meeting of the Russian-French Council on Economic, Financial, Industrial and Trade Issues. The Coordinating Council of the «Trianon Dialogue» will meet in 2018 at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum with the participation of the presidents of Russia and France.
