MGIMO Opens Branch Campus in Tashkent

October 19th, Russian President Vladimir Putin went on an official visit to Uzbekistan. The Russian delegation included MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov, who participated in the negotiations.

The Presidents of both countries attended the talks on the creation of a branch campus of MGIMO in Uzbekistan. The official document was signed by Anatoly Torkunov and the Rector of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy Abdujabar Abduvakhitov. The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev remarked that this step was an important milestone in bilateral relations.

The MGIMO Tashkent campus will train students at undergraduate and graduates levels as well as offer professional education in international relations, economics, law, linguistics, intercultural communication and international tourism. All programs will respect MGIMO’s educational standards. Two master programs are scheduled to open this year.

The Russian-Uzbek Educational Forum and the Interregional Cooperation Forum were timed to coincide with Vladimir Putin’s state visit to Uzbekistan. These events gathered representatives of about 100 Russian universities and civil servants from all over Russia.
