MGIMO Welcomes Representatives of the American Centre for the National Interest

September 27th, MGIMO hosted a conference of the «Russian-American Dialogue», which it co-organized with the Center for the National Interest (USA). The seminar was devoted to discussing bilateral relations, European security and the challenges faced by East Asia.

The seminar gathered prominent Russian and American researchers and civil servants, among whom the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov, the Adviser to the Russian President on Regional Economic Integration Sergey Glazyev, the Director of the Institute for USA and Canadian Studies at the Russian Academy of Sciences Sergey Rogov, the Chairman of the PIR Center Evgeny Buzhinskiy and others. The American side was represented by the President of the Center for the National Interest Dmitry Simes, the Director of the Centre, Paul Saunders as well as diplomats and former government officials.

MGIMO’s Vice-Rector for Graduate and International Programs Andrey Baykov delivered a welcome speech to the participants and described the efforts made by the University to improve bilateral relations. Dmitry Simes emphasized the need to establish a constructive dialogue between America and Russia in order to stabilize world politics. The seminar comprised sections on trade, investments, sanctions, Syria, Ukraine, North Korea and a myriad of other burning issues. MGIMO professors actively participated in the debates.

The Center for the National Interest is one of the most influential think tanks in the US, which supports moderate Republican positions.
