27 February 2018

February 27th, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Russian Federation Batyr Niyazliev came to MGIMO for a meeting with the University’s Rector Anatoly Torkunov.

During their interview, the sides discussed the opportunities for further cooperation in education, science and research. In October 2017, a Cooperation Agreement was signed by MGIMO and the Institute of International Relations of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan. The document provides a framework for the implementation of exchange programs of students and lecturers and for the development of joint research in International Relations.

The parties also agreed in principle to hold in 2018 an international conference on the opportunities, risks and concrete measures linked to the «One Belt, One Road» initiative. Currently, the Turkmen language is studied at MGIMO by two groups of students in first and fourth year and ten citizens of Turkmenistan are enrolled in BA and MA programs at the University.
