13 November 2017

November 10th, Anatoly Torkunov, MGIMO Rector and Chairman of the UN Association of Russia had an interview with Vladimir Kuznetsov, Director of the United Nations Information Centre in Moscow. Also attending on MGIMO’s side was the Chair of the Executive Committee of the World Federation of United Nations Associations and Head of the UNESCO Chair at the University, Alexei Borisov.

The sides discussed the pathways to expand cooperation between the UN Association of Russia and the different UN country teams operating in the country, particularly in view of celebrating the upcoming 70th anniversary of the United Nations presence in Russia. The UN Information Center in Moscow is the oldest UN office in the country and was established in 1948.

This key political event should, according to the meeting participants, serve to popularize the United Nations in the country and strengthen Russia’s influence in the International Organization. The parties decided to hold a series of joint events for the occasion, including a scientific conference to take place within the walls of the University.
