Austrian Foreign Minister Comes to MGIMO

April 20 th , MGIMO welcomed Karin Kneissl, Austrian Federal Minister for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs. The guest met with MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov and gave a talk to students and faculty members of the University.

On the Austrian side, the meeting was also attended by the Ambassador of Austria to Russia, Johannes Aigner and representatives of the Austrian Foreign Ministry. The Russian Ambassador to Austria Dmitry Lyubinsky was also present. Upon her arrival at MGIMO, Karin Kneissl was greeted by the University’s Vice-Rector for Graduate and International Programs, Andrey Baykov, and the Head of the International Office, Egor Andreev. After the formal< meeting with the University’s management, the Foreign Minister spoke to MGIMO students studying the German language and answered their questions.

Karin Kneissl’s talk at MGIMO took place in the framework of her official visit to Russia, organized at the invitation of Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov. During their interview on April 20 th , the ministers spoke about bilateral relations and mulled over opportunities for further cooperation. These talks follow the meeting between President Vladimir Putin and the Austrian Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, which took place on February 28 th in Moscow. Sergey Lavrov and his Austrian counterpart remarked that despite the difficult situation in Europe, our countries have managed to maintain a constructive dialogue.
