12 September 2016

September 7th — 11th, the International Youth Forum «Eurasia», instigated by Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, took place in Orenburg. MGIMO co-organized the Forum and prepared a broad educational program for participants of the event.

The objective of the Forum was to prepare for the World Festival of Youth and Students in 2017, to promote international youth cooperation, and to popularize the Russian language and culture in the world. Over 800 people from 63 countries participated in the event, including the heads of federal authorities, university rectors and experts from all spheres.

A welcome address was communicated to participants of the Forum on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The governor of the Orenburg region Yury Berg and the head of Rosmolodezh Sergei Pospelov noted that both the timing and the venue of the event were fitting, with Orenburg being at the crossroads of two continents, Europe and Asia.

The program of the forum consisted of panel discussions, round tables, sections and case studies. During the panel «Russia’s foreign policy: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow», MGIMO’s Vice-Rector for Graduate and International Programs Andrey Baykov and the Deputy Director for Research at the European Studies Institute Oleg Barabanov spoke about the different approaches to the study of International Relations. Other MGIMO faculty members contributed to a series of different panels.

The Center for International Youth Cooperation prepared a draft final resolution of the Forum, which was approved by all participants. The document proposes to hold a Forum annually and to create a permanent coordinating body.
