MGIMO Rector Receives Ethiopian Ambassador

February 13th, the Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to Russia, Alemayehu Tegenu came to MGIMO for a meeting with the University’s Rector Anatoly Torkunov.

The Rector related to the guest the history and current development priorities of the University, describing the programs it offers and the main cooperation initiatives with African universities.

Anatoly Torkunov gave a detailed account of MGIMO’s tradition of African Studies and of teaching Amharic, Afrikaans and Swahili. He also spoke about the University’s African Club and the various thematic conferences devoted to the continent.

Alemayehu Tegenu expressed interest in more Ethiopian citizens studying at MGIMO, in the Embassy receiving the University’s different academic publications, and in Ethiopian lecturers coming to MGIMO for skills-upgrading courses. After the meeting, the sides decided to expand their cooperation in research and education.
