MGIMO at UN Forum on Business and Human Rights

November 27th to 30th, the 6th United Nations Forum on Business and Human Rights unfolded at the European Headquarters of the organization in Geneva. The Chairman of the Executive Committee of the World Federation of United Nations Associations and Head of the UNESCO Chair, Alexei Borisov, acted as moderator of the event.

The UN Forum on Business and Human Rights is a global platform for dialogue on major human rights issues in the global economy and for developing international standards in the field of corporate responsibility.

This year for the first time, the Russian delegation presented in the framework of the Forum a special program, which reflected the position and experience of Russian corporations in the sphere of human rights and testified to Russia companies’ significant role in the worldwide process of creating international standards. The Russian speakers also described the progress made by the Global Compact Network Russia together with the Russian Foreign Ministry in the analysis and implementation of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.

The central theme of the 2017 Forum was «Realizing Access to Effective Remedy». On the sidelines of the Forum, the Russian delegation signed an Agreement on Cooperation with the Swiss network, which will enable the sides to exchange best practices, and visited a Swiss corporation having implemented advanced sustainable development practices.
