4 December 2017

November 25th-29th, the finals of the prestigious international tax competition Young Tax Professional of 2017 organized by the consulting firm Ernst & Young took place in Amsterdam. Natalia Averina, 1st year MA student at MGIMO’s Department of International Law, won the final of the competition.

It is the first time in the history of the contest that a Russian student is awarded the first place. The winner will be offered the unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience at EY offices in London, New York and Hong Kong as part of a 30-day global tour, and will be able to network with some of the world’s leading tax professionals.

Natalia Averina received, when preparing for the competition, the support of the departments of Administrative and Financial Law and of the Department of English. This year saw contestants from the 21 countries convene to participate in technical workshops, case studies and interviews before a judging panel, which included EY top management, academics and tax directors from major multinational companies. At each stage, the jury assessed students’ knowledge of international taxation and its latest trends, their awareness of business news as well as their presentation skills.
