Director of International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis Comes to MGIMO

January 13th, MGIMO welcomed a group of representatives of the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), led by its Director General Pavel Kabat.

The visiting delegation also included the Program Director of Advanced Systems Analysis Elena Rovenskaya, the Research Scholar Anastasia Stepanova and the Science Diplomacy Officer Sergey Sizov. The guests were greeted by MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov, the University’s Vice-Rector for Research Evgeny Kozhokin and MGIMO experts.

MGIMO and UN Information Centre Sign Cooperation Agreement

January 12th, MGIMO’s Vice-Rector for Human Resources Vladimir Morozov welcomed to the University the Director of the United Nations Information Centre in Moscow, Vladimir Kuznetsov. The sides signed an Agreement on Cooperation, which will enable the creation of joint training programs and the organization of internships within the UN.

Vladimir Kuznetsov noted that the institutionalization of relations would take the partnership between one of Russia’s best universities and the United Nations to a new level.

MGIMO at APSIA Annual Conference in Singapore

January 4th to 8th, the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore hosted the 28th meeting of the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA). MGIMO was represented at this event by its Vice-Rector for Graduate and International Programs, Andrey Baykov.

APSIA is a non-profit scientific and educational forum,which brings together top-notch universities specializing in International Relations and Diplomacy. APSIA started its activities in the 1970’s in the United States and grew to include 28 universities from a number of different countries. The association aims at improving the methods of teaching International Relations and training diplomats. MGIMO joined the Association in 1998 as an affiliate member and in 2000 became a full member.

General Director of International University of Monaco Comes to MGIMO

January 12th, MGIMO’s Vice-Rector for General Affairs, Artem Malgin welcomed the General Director of the International University of Monaco, Jean-Philippe Muller.

Following the agreement on cooperation signed by the two universities in the summer of 2016, the sides organized a meeting to review the possibilities for enhancing their partnership, particularly in the sphere of professional education. The representatives of the two universities hashed out issues relating to the creation of dual MBA programs and joint internships.

MGIMO Holds Conference on Forecasting International Processes

December 22nd, MGIMO hosted a scientific conference dedicated to the methods used in forecasting international processes, which was entitled «International Uncertainty: Threats and Opportunities.»

Forecasting methods have allowed leading Russian and foreign experts to predict a number of recent events such as the increase in tensions in Nagorno-Karabakh, the military coup in Turkey, Brexit and Donald Trump’s victory in the American elections. MGIMO’s Department of Applied International Analysis has performed research on the methodology used for political analysis and prepared a number of publications on forecasting methods, which help to manage political uncertainty in a quickly changing world.
