Department of Civil Society

Department of Civil Society is relatively new to the School of Political Affairs and World Politics and Moscow State Institute (University) of International Relations. The Department was founded in June 2008 following the recommendation of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation to the MGIMO administration and the subsequent decision of the Academic Council of the Institute (University). The Civic Chamber’s recommendation to the university administration emphasized that the creation and activity of a department with such specialization would form a scientific, methodological and continuing education basis to use and apply the relevant practical experience of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation in the field of civil society and other related areas in the academic and scientific process.

The Department of Civil Society is one of the first departments in Russia whose activity focuses on civil society, which enables the Department to take a very active part in the development of an education standard in this sphere.
