MGIMO Welcomes Ambassador of Czech Republic Vladimir Remek

November 14th, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Russia and Hero of the Soviet Union, Vladimir Remek came to MGIMO. The guest attended a meeting with the University’s Rector Anatoly Torkunov and gave a talk to an audience of students and faculty members.

During the interview with the Rector, the sides hashed out a wide range of education related topics, including the training of experts in International Relations and the deepening of cooperation between MGIMO and universities in the Czech Republic. The meeting was attended by Petr Krouzek, Counselor at the Czech Embassy in Russia and the Economic Adviser Pavel Prochazka, also an MGIMO graduate (1992). The diplomats noted that the knowledge acquired at university is of great use to them in their professional life. They also underlined the quality of the Czech language training at MGIMO.

MGIMO at «Education and Career» Fair in Tashkent

November 11th, Tashkent (Uzbekistan) hosted an international educational exhibition «Education and Career 2016», with the support of Rossotrudnichestvo. Dozens of universities from around the world gathered at the event to present their programs to the youth of Uzbekistan.

MGIMO participated in the fair this year for the first time and was represented by Ekaterina Tronevskaya from MGIMO’s Public Relations Department and two students of the Institute. MGIMO’s stand attracted a large number of students, interested in the undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate and MBA programs presented by MGIMO. The youth of Uzbekistan showed a clear desire to receive quality education within the walls of the University. Prospective students asked a myriad of questions about the educational process in MGIMO and the Russian way of life, which reflects their strong motivation to enroll with MGIMO.

MGIMO Establishes Partnership with Rosgeologia

November 9th, MGIMO’s International Institute of Energy Policy and Diplomacy (MIEP) signed a cooperation agreement with Rosgeologia, Russia’s largest exploration services company. It is one of a number of partnerships MGIMO has recently struck with large corporations in view of reinforcing university-business cooperation.

The official document was signed by MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov, the Chief Executive Officer of Rosgeologia Roman Panov and the Director of MIEP Valery Salygin. During the ceremony, the sides noted that this partnership agreement would improve the effectiveness of practice-oriented teaching within MGIMO and contribute to the successful implementation of important research projects.

MGIMO Hosts International Conference on Migration

October 31st to November 1st, the 8th International scientific conference on «New trends and consequences of migration in times of geopolitical and economic crisis» unfolded at MGIMO. The event took place in the framework of the project «Migration Bridges in Eurasia», alongside a number of conferences on migration held in Stavropol, Hanoi and Minsk.

The conference in Moscow was a platform for scientific work, for meetings between partners of BRICS Network University in view of creating joint master programs and for lectures in foreign languages on migration and demography issues attended by MGIMO students.

Former Cypriot President George Vassiliou and Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides Give Book Presentation at MGIMO

October 31st, MGIMO hosted the presentation of a recently released book entitled «George Vassiliou: Reflections on the past and the future», dedicated to the resolution of the Cyprus conflict. The authors, the President of Cyprus (1988–1993) George Vassiliou and Kizilyurek Niyazi, participated in the event, as well as the current Cypriot Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides and the Ambassador of Cyprus to Moscow, George Kasoulides.

The guests of honor were greeted by MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov, who emphasized the importance of the book, not only for scholars specialized in European politics and the Cyprus question, but for all students of International Relations. The Russian Ambassador to Cyprus from 1996 to 1999, Georgy Muradov, noted that the international community, including Russia, is favorable to a peaceful settlement of the Cyprus question.
