Major Takeaways from X RISA Convention

December 8th-9th, the tenth Convention of the Russian International Studies Association (RISA), dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Russia’s foreign policy unfolded at MGIMO University. The event was supported by MGIMO’s Endowment Fund and Alumni Association.

The program of the Convention comprised a myriad of different events: 60 sections and round tables, two plenary sessions and three international conferences «Israel and Russia: common and specific in viewpoints. Devoted to the 25th anniversary of Russian — Israeli relations», «Russia and Poland in new environment: are there opportunities for cooperation?» and «ASEAN and Russia in Asia-Pacific region: dynamic of cooperation, regional processes and the global context (final results of the anniversary year of the ASEAN — Russia dialogue partnership)». The event gathered more than 1200 Russian and foreign experts from over 35 countries!

MGIMO Alumni Association Holds Meeting In Austria

December 8th, the annual gathering of MGIMO graduates working and living in Austria took place at the Russian Centre for Science and Culture in Vienna.

The meeting was attended by members of the Russian diplomatic corps, diplomats from various countries, representatives of international organizations, academics and businessmen. The Russian Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky, who was on a business trip to Austria, was the guest of honor of the meeting. Several generations of MGIMO alumni participated in the event, including graduates from the 1960’s and 1970’s who have preserved ties with their Alma Mater.

MGIMO Hosts Russian International Studies Association Convention

December 8th, the tenth Convention of the Russian International Studies Association (RISA), dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Russia’s foreign policy opened at MGIMO University. The first event on the program was a plenary session which attracted a large number of experts and diplomats. In all, over 1200 people registered to participate in the Convention.

During the opening ceremony, Anatoly Torkunov, MGIMO Rector and President of RISA, welcomed the guests and reviewed the achievements of Russia’s foreign policy during the last quarter of a century. The Rector also outlined the main topics to be discussed during the plenary sessions, sections and round tables of the event, emphasizing the relevance of the conferences dedicated to Russian-Israeli relations, to the prospects for cooperation between Russia and Poland and Russia’s «dialogue partnership» with ASEAN.

Russian Ambassador-At-Large Eleonora Mitrofanova Lectures at MGIMO

December 7th, Eleonora Mitrofanova spoke at MGIMO on the topic of «soft power», sharing her personal experience with students of the University in the framework of their course on «Public Diplomacy».

The event was kicked off by MGIMO’s Vice-Rector for Human Resources Vladimir Morozov who presented the guest of honor and emphasized how important it was for students to learn from professionals who have practical experience in public diplomacy. Eleonora Mitrofanova, MGIMO graduate, served at different stages of her career as Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, as Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to UNESCO and is currently Ambassador-at-large of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

MGIMO Signs Cooperation Agreement with University of Messina

December 7th, a delegation from the University of Messina came to MGIMO. The guests reviewed with MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov the prospects for cooperation between the two institutions which resulted in the signing of agreement.

The visiting delegation was led by the Rector of the Italian University Pietro Navarra and included its Vice-Rector for Internationalization Antonino Germanà and its Director General Francesco De Domenico. On MGIMO’s side, the event was attended by the Vice-Rector for Graduate and International Programs Andrey Baykov and by the Professor from the Department of Diplomacy, also a visiting Professor at the University of Messina, Tatiana Zonova.
